05 Aug A Panama City neighborhood creates a market for fresh fruits and veggies
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Saturday, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and US-98, Glenwood launched a farmers market.
Community members did a soft launch to the market in the middle of July; and on August 3rd, city officials did a ribbon cutting, signifying the official launch of the newest farmers market in Bay County.
Glenwood residents can expect anything from clothing and accessories to books and baked goods. But organizers of the event say they want the value of the Glenwood Farmers Market to be more than monetary.
“So, it’s more about health,” said Amber Payton, the Glenwood Marketplace Market Manager. “Our thing is we want our kids to grow up and experience something other than McDonald’s and Burger King.” Payton continued. “So, health is very important. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and congestive heart failure run really big in our communities; so we wanted to teach everybody a healthier option.”
After city officials cut the ribbon, they unveiled the newest historical plaque to enter the Glenwood community. Paying homage to Glenwood Grocery Store while providing fresh fruits and vegetables to a community that’s lacking.
The Glenwood Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 10am- 2pm.
